Materials Manager
Position Summary:

Manages the processes and the activities relating to Production, Inventory, and Shipping/Receiving departments to ensure timely and cost effective flow of materials throughout the company. 
 
Essential Functions:
  • Monitor the Receiving and Inventory personnel to ensure the proper and timely identification, storage, and issuance of materials required for manufacturing products.
  • Direct the Shipping department to ensure that procedures are in place to correctly identify, package and transport product to suppliers and customer with effective and economical transportation.
  • Work with the Operation Manager to evaluate manufacturing activities to establish priorities for production materials in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Develop and monitor programs to measure and improve inventory turns for materials, work in process and finished good inventory levels.
  • Develop, implement and manage cross-functional, fully integrated planning process.
  • Establish and implement methods and best practices related to the systems and process that support inventory and material control.
  • Responsible for accuracy of inventory counts by implementing and managing an inventory control system, capable of identifying discrepancies in inventory counts and taking corrective action to guard against inconsistencies in the future.
  • Achieves financial objectives by working with management group to prepare the materials schedule and analyze variances and initiate corrective actions.
  • Participates as a member of the operations team in making cross-functional operational decisions.
  • May be required to properly store and transport hazardous waste materials and recyclable waste.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining and aligning company policies that adhere to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
 
 
Primary responsibilities
  • Study historical production projects.
  • Take stock of inventory.
  • Arrange for safe transport of equipment.
  • Ensure materials and parts in the supply chain meet the minimum requirements for quality assurance standards.
  • Sort and organize materials and parts.
  • Develop policies and procedures in the areas of inventory control, receiving, storage and distribution, of supplies throughout the production process.
  • Interface directly with all departments with regards to materials that have been requested to ascertain specifications and need.
  • Assure adequate supply levels.
  • Follow established safe practices for receiving hazardous substances.
  • Coordinate productive hours, space, equipment and expense as they relate to materials department.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
 
•    Maintain and provide current understanding of industry best practices and technology trends.
•    Knowledge of Inbound and Outbound freight practices
•    Identify tools, processes and metrics to optimize value.
•    Leads by example and motivates people so as to create a challenging, empowering, and   
     collaborative working environment.
•    Good technical writing, documentation, and record keeping skills.
•    Good analytical problem solving ability.
•    Ability to contribute in a cross functional collaborative environment.
•    Ability to leverage metrics and other tools to drive superior performance.
 
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Production Control experience preferred
  • Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills required
  • At least 5 years progressive experience in management of materials and sourcing within a design and manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in total quality, six sigma, or other similar environments preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Must enjoy fast-paced, multi-tasking work environment 
 
 
Must be able to:
  • Carry, pull and push up to 50 pounds of dead weight
  • Climb up and down a ladder
  • Sit, stand stoop, kneel, squat, crouch and or crawl 
  • Twist or turn in confined spaces
