REPORTS TO: Purchasing Manager Department: Bill of Materials
Essential Responsibilities
The Bill of Materials Clerk, under the direction of the Purchasing Manager completes bill of materials and maintains a required parts book for each project based on contract requirements.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Reads each contract awarded to the company to determine work required on each bus/unit
  • Determines what work needs to be performed on bus/unit. May need to interact with Contract Administrator, various supervisors and or the Sales team to determine requirements of contract
  • Identifies what parts and materials will be necessary to complete the required work
  • Researches automotive and other parts books to find the needed components
  • Finds the correct part, part number and vendor for each needed component
  • Completes the Bill of Materials, entering parts, part numbers and quantity needed into computer system
  • Develops a book containing the information that the Purchasing Department will need to price parts, including part name, part number, picture of part and vendor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Purchasing Manager.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of related experience and or Service Writer experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel and Access)
  • Understanding of basic purchasing policies, practice and terminology
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
Must be able to:
  • Spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. The Bill of Materials Clerk may also have to do some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
  • Carry, pull, lift, and push up to 50 pounds of dead weight.
  • Capability of lifting 10 pound objects overhead.
  • Climb up and down a ladder
  • Sit, stand stoop, kneel, squat, crouch and or crawl 
  • Twist or turn in confined spaces
